Two weeks after the French Championship round, we're back at the legendary Le Mans circuit — this time for the first round of the World Championship, as a curtain-raiser for the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Qualifying: After very close practice sessions, we set the second-fastest time, behind the Swiss Schlosser/Schmidt crew.
Race 1: Lights out, we make a great start! Several of us are side by side all the way through the Dunlop curve, but we take the advantage at the chicane! We push to the limit over the first 5 laps to build a gap, and manage to keep enough of a margin to take the chequered flag 4.9 seconds clear! What a race!!!
Race 2: Same start as the day before, but we take the lead two corners later, at La Chapelle. Machines number 3 and 6 are right behind us. We stay in front until 6 laps from the chequered flag, when the machine loses power and we are forced to retire, running on 3 cylinders.
